      Disposition:
      Empathetic

For all that Deuce was a troublemaker in middle school, he is a surprisingly insightful and caring young man. When faced with a distressed Epel, Deuce decides to join the VDC auditions in hopes of making it to help Epel, who was being forced into it, and he’s always the person to suggest helping someone else because it’s the right thing to do. This can sometimes backfire on him, usually by resulting in Deuce getting into a fight of some sort or otherwise punished, but he hasn’t regretted it yet.

      Dim

Deuce is, to be perfectly frank, an idiot. He tries his best, but this is a young man who thought that the eggs in the grocery store would hatch into chicks if left alone long enough. For sixteen years. He doesn’t learn the truth until the first major story chapter in canon. He’s an idiot. A good boy, but an idiot. This also has the side-effect of leaving Deuce somewhat painfully naive, unfortunately, and easily taken advantage of by classmates who are less given to goodwill.

He’s also a teenager and subsequently has a tendency not to think before doing anything, which doesn't help with Deuce's overall dimness or attempts at becoming a proper honor student. When trying to catch Grim at the start of the year, for example, his idea was to magically throw Ace onto a chandelier without asking Ace if he was okay with this or stopping to think that maybe, just maybe, tossing another guy onto a chandelier would break the chandelier. He also thought signing a contract to place high in the midterms with a guy sort of known throughout the school for sketchy deals couldn't possibly backfire, but in his defense he's hardly the only one who did that.

      Brash

On top of the general lack of forethought previously mentioned, Deuce is remarkably hot-blooded at times. If he gets pissed off (which is easy to do), he'll quickly go from nice and polite right back to being a tough talking delinquent ready to throw down with a grin...and he'll probably win the fight, all other things being equal. He'll then be really embarrassed about it most of the time, but he'll still do it. He also had a reputation in middle school that was so fearsome he didn't have very many friends; though he's trying to change this and can't possibly be as scary as some of the upperclassmen in NRC, moments such as deciding he'll fight a blot monster all on his own or the fight where he tried to make other students apologize to the eggs they broke show that Deuce does resort to violence if he feels it's necessary. (And yes, this is where he learned about eggs.)

This brashness may also be what prompted him to use his Unique Magic against Vil when Vil was losing control, despite the fact that he A, did not realize it was his Unique Magic and B, did not actually know how to actively use it until that moment. It was done to protect everyone, sure, and so isn't strictly a case of Deuce losing his composure and throwing down, but it takes a certain level of brashness to think you (a first year magician with little magic of note) can use a magic you have used once on accident to stop an extremely powerful, out of control third year who has been kicking your ass and the asses of everyone trying to stop him without even trying.
      Determined

Despite everything, and even if it sometimes leads to some questionable choices, Deuce is remarkably stubborn. He struggles with academics, but he’s determined to become an honor student. He can’t dance or sing, but he was going to make it into the VDC team so help him god. When Yuu and Grim are dealing with Jamil’s nonsense over winter break, he (and Ace) spend most of their break trying to get back to school just to help them. Some people might call Deuce bull-headed for this determination of his, but the fact remains that he won’t let anything stop him.

I have in the past called Deuce a teenaged himbo. I stand by this description.

Suitability: Deuce is from a world with beastmen, merfolk, and what the fuck ever Grim is. The native gems and Noctium are not the weirdest thing this boy has seen, especially with all the Overblotting and Yuu-being-from-another-world stuff going on. He’ll be confused, but that’s to be expected (especially from Deuce).

Synchrony and the whole bodily changes thing might be a bit much for him at first, but he’ll adapt just fine. He’s a teenaged boy. He’ll manage.

      Condition upon arrival: Perfect health!

Abilities: Deuce is very good at one thing, and that one thing is “hitting things until they do what he wants them to do”. He just has a few way with which to hit the things. These include:

-His standard magic. In a panic he defaults to summoning cauldrons and dropping them on people, but he’s capable of casting elemental magic spells (fire, water, or wind) as well as a neutral element that appears to be dark magic for him. He’s learning how to do other spells, but as a first year he’s not very good at anything but the aforementioned

-His Unique Magic, Bet the Limit. Unique Magic is a magician’s signature spell or ability, something that the magician themselves develops or discovers (in the case of one character, it’s implied he developed his own UM but Deuce specifically just sort of discovered his) that no one else is able to replicate. In Deuce’s case, Bet the Limit allows him to take a magical attack and turn it back on his opponent, with the return attack somewhat amplified. The stronger the attack, the stronger Deuce’s counter.

-Just punching people. He was a delinquent in middle school. Boy can punch.

Aside from all the ways he can hit things, Deuce is pretty good at mechanical repairs. Being the only child of a single mother meant he was in charge of a lot of repairs, and as a fan of magical wheels (one-wheeled motorcycles) he’s picked up more than a few tricks. He’s also surprisingly good at fixing small electronics.

Inventory: His magical gem and the pen-shaped holder for it.

      Gembond: Sapphire
Gem Location: Corner of his right eye, where the spade symbol is on his icons
